As part of our MINI Fashion initiative, we brought thoughtful, urban-inspired creations to Pitti Uomo Italy – one of fashion’s most iconic men’s clothing projects. The third installment in the MINI Fashion Capsule Collection, Beyond Native explores the tension between cultural origin and modern living. Five international designers created a variety of individual fashion items for the modern Urban Traveler. In their work, you can see traditional elements colliding with cosmopolitan style cues. Flashes of bold, Nigerian-inspired colour pop on a grey New York subway backdrop. Centuries-old handicrafts merge with modern design. This isn’t a nostalgic revival of the past. It’s a glimpse into the future of fashion.
MINI partnered with Brazilian-born shoe designer Diego Vanassibara – the first designer to receive the NEWGEN Men Award from the British Fashion Council – for the Beyond Native project. Diego takes inspiration from his Brazilian heritage and his life now-in London to craft incredible, unique footwear designs. Like MINI, Diego defies the norm. Rather than a traditional catwalk show, he chooses to show off his work in the form of custom made installations.
