The All-Electric MINI Countryman has a range of up to 287 miles, and the All-Electric MINI Cooper has a range of up to 249 miles, but this will vary according to driving habits and environmental conditions. How you drive can make a big difference to your available range and how quickly your charge is used. Here are a few tips that can help to extend your range.
FACTORS AFFECTING ELECTRIC CAR RANGE.
HEATING AND COOLING.
You can’t control the weather, but it does have a big effect on the electric range. Low temperatures reduce battery capacity and increase energy consumption as you turn up the heating. In hot weather, using the air con to keep your car cool has the same effect.
PRE-CONDITIONING.
By pre-conditioning your electric MINI, you can set the air con to your ideal temperature while it’s still charging. You can schedule this using the touch screen inside the electric MINI, or set it remotely using the MINI Connected app.
REGENERATIVE BRAKING.
You can recover energy through regenerative braking, which helps to extend the electric MINI range. This feature is adjustable, but by keeping it set at the highest level you’ll get the best results. It’s especially useful on steep hills as you can recover more energy on the way back down.
GREEN DRIVING MODES.
Using the electric MINI Green Mode helps you to accelerate more smoothly and anticipate the road ahead to extend your driving range. When the AC and heating aren’t needed, switching to the Green+ Mode will extend your range even further.
SPEED AND STYLE.
Leave plenty of time for your journey and take it easy. The lower your speed, the less energy you’ll use, helping to extend your driving range. A smoother driving style will also help to save energy, making the most of regenerative braking and anticipating the road ahead.
ROUTE PLAN AND CHARGING.
Plan ahead with MINI Connected and use MINI Navigation to tailor your routes to your battery usage. Your electric MINI will automatically suggest charging stops taking into account your available range and the destination. You can also use the ECO route to make journeys more energy efficient.
