MINI John Cooper Works Convertible Wins The Sunday Times Car of the Year 2025.
JOHN COOPER WORKS WINS AGAIN.
Here at MINI, we’re all for modesty – except when it comes to winning awards. Then we can’t help but feel a little chuffed. That’s why we’re sporting a bigger-than-usual grin about our MINI John Cooper Works Convertible, which took the top spot for The Sunday Times Car of the Year 2025. Read on to hear why Sunday Times Motoring Editor Nick Rufford crowned it a worthy winner.
BORN TO PERFORM.
Relatively new to the MINI family, the MINI John Cooper Works Convertible combines signature MINI agility, fine-tuned to deliver open-top fun with a serious edge. Built at MINI Plant Oxford, it launched earlier this year to a fast-growing fan base thanks to its head-turning looks and sharp performance, powered by a 231hp 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo engine. Clever adjustments to the chassis and suspension deliver the ultimate in roof-down thrills, adding even more punch to its dialled-up driving dynamics.
MINI = FUN. FACT.
So what’s it like to drive? Offering up his non-biased opinion is Sunday Times Motoring Editor Nick Rufford, who was suitably bowled over by its sporty agility and a self-assured presence. “Show [the car] a twisty backroad and it will slingshot through bends in a way that would have delighted John Cooper,” Nick said. “This was the most fun out of all the cars I’ve driven this year and attracted the most admiring looks”. And how does the MINI John Cooper Works Convertible stack up against other sporty cars? According to Nick, pretty well. “Supercars may be more exotic”, he says, “ but they don’t deliver everyday thrills at circa £37,000”. We’ll happily take the compliment.
GET BEHIND THE HYPE.
There’s always been a healthy dose of hype around the MINI John Cooper Works range – and for good reason. Wide, low and muscular, it has a self-assured presence that gets noticed. Whether conquering city streets or taking on the track, the MINI John Cooper Works Convertible delivers more substance and excitement than ever. All that’s missing is you behind the wheel.
