A MILE OF MINIS. A MILE OF SMILES.
We had a blast at the ‘Mile of MINIs’ driving day back in March. The event saw 140 MINIs – classic and contemporary – make their way in convoy across the English countryside from MINI Plant Oxford to Silverstone, all while raising money for the wonderful Buttle UK charity. A massive MINI thanks to everyone involved. Now let’s check out some of the highlights.
A DRIVE TO REMEMBER.
The many marvellous MINIs travelled to Plant Oxford from across the UK, with one driving all the way from Aberystwyth in west Wales to get involved! Here, they formed a moving mile of MINIs (get it?) with a lap around the factory, before setting off on their journey to Silverstone. To make sure it was as scenic as could be, the nearly 50-mile route touched only 4 miles of A-roads. The rest were oh so picturesque minor roads through the rolling countryside of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire. Lovely.
BIG LOVE FOR BUTTLE UK.
Loads of MINIs, loads of fun and over £11,000 raised for charity. All proceeds and fundraising efforts from the driving day (plus £1,000 from MINI Plant Oxford) went to the brilliant Buttle UK – a charity dedicated to supporting children and young people facing crisis, financial hardship and all sorts of social issues. Thanks so much to everyone that helped.
And a massive MINI applause to the Italian Job – the event organisers that have raised over £3 million for children’s charities since 1990! Now that’s Big Love.
110 YEARS OF PLANT OXFORD.
The ‘Mile of MINIs’ driving day set off from Plant Oxford. So it only seemed right we wished our beloved factory – and the beating heart of MINI manufacturing – a very happy 110th birthday. Yep, way back in 1913, a Bullnose Morris Oxford was the first car built there. This kickstarted over a century (and counting) of car production for a range of British motor brands, of which MINI is still lucky enough to call it home.
